the renewal of africa and the creation of a better world

Over the last ten years, South Africa has achieved significant milestones eliminating atrocities of Apartheid, laying a firm foundation in building national reconciliation, national unity, a shared pride and new patriotism. In order to build an economy that benefits all, the Government and Corporate South Africa are committed to economic empowerment. Economic empowerment is an integral part of South Africa's transformation process, encouraging the redistribution of wealth and opportunities to previously disadvantaged communities and individuals, including blacks, women and people with disabilities. The empowerment process has been identified as crucial to the future viability of the country's economy. The Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Act of 2003 defines "black people" as a generic term that includes "Africans, Coloureds and Indians". According to the Act, "broad-based black economic empowerment" – with an emphasis on 'broad-based' - refers to the economic empowerment of all black people including women, workers, youth, people with disabilities and people living in rural areas. As a company with its roots firmly in South Africa, IQ is committed to building a South Africa that truly belongs to all who live in it, united in diversity. We view BEE as an opportunity to invest in people and contribute to the environment we operate within. What is the ICT Charter? The ICT Charter Working group was launched in June 2003. This charter is an industry-driven document being put together by major stakeholders in the ICT sector, together with valuable input from government. The measurement of the charter uses indictors ranging from: ownership, management and control, skills development, employment equity, enterprise development, preferential procurement and social investment. IQ’s Commitment IQ is proud to have met the ICT draft charter’s definition of a black-empowered company based on our shareholding (25-50% empowerment shareholding).
